Modern science has not proven that consciousness arises from the brain, and researchers like Dr. Pim van Lommel, a cardiac physician who has studied thousands of near death experiences believes that: “consciousness is not localized to the body”. This sounds quite similar to the words of a renowned physicist, Dr. Amit Goswami, from the University of Oregon, who was featured in the popular movie What the Bleep do we Know?

So, if our consciousness is not of physical origin, then the door is wide open to the idea that not only does our conciousness survive death, but that it was present before birth, and that the brain and body are just a transceiver, a temporary abode.
This is the fundamental theory of all major spiritual belief systems, which science has still not dis-proven. These ideas explain how re incarnation, and contact with the after life is possible.
